The University of Baguio (acronym: UB) is a private, Filipino, multidisciplinary, autonomous, ASEAN 2015 and K-12 Ready university located in the City of Baguio, Philippines. The school was founded by ''Dr. Fernando Gonzaga Bautista'' and ''Rosa Castillo Bautista'' on August 8, 1948 as the ''Baguio Technical and Commercial Institute'' with 80 students. The student population as of year 2000 is about 18,000 students in its tertiary, secondary, and primary levels. ==History==
The University of Baguio, then known as the Baguio Technical Commercial Institute, was situated in a rented building along Session Road in its first two years of existence. Colloquially, students and citizens of the city loved to call it Baguio Tech. It was headed by its Dr. Fernando "Tatay" G. Bautista and Mrs. Rosa "Nanay" Castillo Bautista on the 8th of August in 1948. On August 7, 1969, the institute was granted university status. After 21 years of service, then-Secretary of Education Dr. Onofre D. Corpuz signed its university charter attended by officials of the Department of Education, officials of the city of Baguio, 20 heads/representatives of educational institutions in the United States and Great Britain and presidents of more than 60 colleges and universities in the Philippines. Dr. Fernando Bautista became the first president of the University of Baguio.
